Dr. Golden was born and raised in Tallassee, Alabama, just a short distance from Montgomery. He grew up on what he describes as an "Old MacDonald Farm." He attended Reeltown schools from first grade until high school. In 1979, he received his Bachelors in Animal and Dairy Sciences and then his doctorate of veterinary medicine in 1983 at Auburn University. Dr. Golden initially practiced with Dr. Ken Johnson in Lilburn Georgia at Beaver Ruin Road Veterinary Clinic. He soon returned to practice with Dr. Robert Parker at the Ark Animal Clinic in Millbrook, Alabama and Dr. U.D. Sharma at Wares Ferry Road Animal Clinic. In 1985, Dr. Golden opened Carrville Animal Clinic in Tallassee, Alabama and practiced there for six years until the re-location of his practice to Golden Animal Hospital in Montgomery in 1991. In 2007, Dr. Golden opened a second location, Golden Animal Hospital East in the EastChase Shopping Center
